Is there a difference between OTT Sweet and Decololi? I feel like there isn't. Or at least there is a definitely more lolita then decora in the style. If there is a difference, I'd love to see some pictures :) Thanks
Ah! There is a difference, but it’s really subtle where the line is sometimes. Decololi is an older style than OTT sweet, and was more popular around 2008 when decora was in style (since it is a hybrid of the two), while OTT Sweet evolved out of it a few years later. Early Decololi was pretty easy to tell from sweet lolita of the time, because it was all old school sweet lolita or what we currently would just call sweet lolita. As OTT Sweet has gotten more and more over the top, it’s become harder to tell the two styles apart.
OTT Sweet tends to use large extravagant accessories; an over-sized headbow or two and a couple bow clips, a carousel or giant cupcake headpiece, etc. Large floral headdresses also tend to fall into the OTT sweet (or even OTT classic or gothic subset). Decololi, on the other hand, will use one or two larger bows, and then a whole bucket of smaller bows. I usually use 30-50 bows and clips for decololi. An OTT sweet coord might have 1-3 inches of the arm covered in bracelets (so, maybe 0-3 per arm), while decololi often has bracelets going up more than half way to the elbow (5-15 per arm). In decololi, it’s more acceptable to layer multiple skirts or a skirt over a dress, and to layer multiple necklaces, and to add lots of pin on bows. I like to joke that OTT Lolita looks like something out of a fashion show, while DecoLoli looks more like someone rolled around in a bin of accessories. This tumblr does have some of both styles (as well as some decora); because decololi is an older (and uncommon) subset of lolita fashion, and because most people who enjoy decololi usually also like OTT sweet.
